Garden Fencing: Barrel Board

garden fence, dublin

As fencing goes, there are many styles and types that I have been party to. But, in the front of house home extremely eloquent department, there are few if any that come close to how beautiful a finish this wood is. In short, if barrel board were a lady, I would happy recite it the most lovely paragraphs of Shakespeare’s finest.

Of note, if you are looking for the cheapest quote or in short a screen made of wood; then it’s probably best you head on over to one of the many DIY Super Store emporiums. No offence…. see what I did there ?  Fence. No. No ? To explain, sometimes a Ferrari is the right call and sometimes the Transit van will do just dandy. Here, we chose the  MG BGT. 1977 version. With the chrome bumpers and 4 speed overdrive. ie. the very smart and damn tasty option.

Hartnett Electric Log Splitter

Please note:

I make gardens. Or landscape gardens. I studied horticulture. etc. You get the picture.

I do not sell, repair, hire or have anything to do with this product or its company.
I very simply thought it was a good product. That said, I hope you enjoy reading.

Cheers
Peter

Electric Log Splitter

If you are thinking cosy nights by the fire, candles, chocolates and a glass of wine but you don’t fancy wearing an eye patch whilst clumps of timber are removed from your, up until quite recent, once very good looking face, then this just maybe is the tool you need to buy your man, or lady….

My experiences aside wry sense of humour aside, for those who have wood burning stoves….. you might just like this one.

Hailing from The Peoples Republic of Cork, Harnett/ Hart Tools are a family run business and this, just one of their products I found pretty amazing, is the 7 Tonne Electric Log Splitter.

As disclaimers go, I don’t own one but a friend of mine purchased one recently and I have to admit I was pretty darned impressed. Definitely one for the man tools list and a heck of a lot simpler than an axe.

Philip explains some behind the scenes bits you may find interesting….

kilkenny Castle Rose Garden & Park

On Monday the 26th October 2009 I went to visit Kilkenny Castle Rose Park & Gardens. I went under the recommendation of my good friend Pat Fitzgerald.

As I walked up towards the castle I was bemused at the amount of brand spanking smooth polished granite that adorned such a vast are[n]a, complete with mirror polished steel against this ancient backdrop of the beautiful castle…. who on Gods earth decided on this…? such a shame. And to those who did this… you should be ashamed.

That out of my system. It was the gardens I went to see.Admission is free. The grounds are very well maintained. The sight of new tree planting schemes is to be applauded and admired. I really do love this park… The hills of grass so high in parts that one couldn’t see over the far side. The wooded areas were left with stacks of wood [brilliant for wildlife]underneath the canopy of wooded leaf areas. The leaves adorned some of the footpaths but not all. There are so many options when walking here… the poem ‘the road less travelled’ really does come to mind. The walkway by the waters edge is superb, so romantic, such a break from the norm…

It really is so very well done.  The grounds staff deserve a standing ovation. I could have stayed here all day….

The bad bit…. the rose garden was closed off. I attempted to sneak in under the advice of two local ladies…. but I got caught and was chucked out 😉 So this now becomes a review of Kilkenny Castle Park…

Go there and visit. Take your time. Bring the kids. Bring the dog. Watch out for the such beautiful secluded seating areas. Take your time and enjoy. This is up there with the best of them.

Coral Spot

coral spot

caused by the fungus Nectria cinnabarina these almost illuminous orange pustules [about 1mm diameter] take over the surface of the bark a little almost like having the measles…. [if you know what I mean] except for plants.

How they get there is quiet simple… affecting living or dead material the spores enter through damaged or necrotic wood and are usually spread by rain splash or/ and also from cutting/ pruning tools that haven’t been cleaned properly.

There is no real/ chemical control for this. But good garden hygiene is generally the best place to start. In it does infect, prune back to well below the last piece of infected material.

what to do with that old dead tree…

I had seen this somewhere before… anyhow. If you are bored & need a little….

there ye are luv, sure that looks grand now… wha’ ?

….a little perking up, so to speak then this is for you. If the tree is dead, painting it a *wild* colour does 3 things….

  • it saves you the cost & time of cutting it down
  • uses up some of that old paint in the shed
  • most important –  it really does makes people smile

Just make sure and use an outdoor paint for wood…. that’s what trees are made of & and if you don’t like it after you paint it you can always chop it down ….. Go on go wild this weekend… you know you want to 😆

ps: i waited ’til her indoors was gone to do the shopping and put the music up quite loud….. great fun…. while it lasted!!

oooh almost forgot….. eh? this….. click it!!Reblog this post [with Zemanta]
