Detail:

  1. Existing tiered garden over 3 levels / heights.
Private rear garden 0.75 ac. | sloped predominantly from rear to house | neighbours x 3 sides | some slopes extreme | privacy required.
  2. Initial conversation meet notes: we (they) only going to do this once. Create a beautiful, but fitting garden we must love + adds value to house/ home to be. Designer must save his fee in costs.
  3. My calculations show “option 1” of making the entire garden flat, banking / retaining soil / sides up / down / creating such a landscape necessitated an Install boundary hedge at min 5 metres height to create “privacy”. Ex fence + hedge at 2.2m not sufficient. And of costs – far more expensive ratio (1.92 : 1) and, not as eloquent as option 2 and working with the levels.
  4. The alternate, trees planted to the lower unusable and, boundary areas joined creating a peripheral and quite wondrous canopy of trees, that draws the eye up and distracts from the initial issue (of levels). Also an extremely beautiful woodland (but not) walk under planted with winter / spring bulbs.
  5. The next step, to create a 3 tier structure (it’s far less complex than it sounds) to nestle in between the trees and, by way of compliment to the landscape to not outdo or become the focal point but, if I may – like small diamond studded earrings to compliment a simple but elegant black dress – not fade away completely – but it all fits; and an elegance was if I may required.
