The Hedgerow Walk

hedgerow walk dublin

Sunday 7th August, saw a revisit to the SlĂ na Sceacha also known as the Hedgerow Society as the group took another journey through the ditches and outback of some of Dublin’s lesser known lands and trails.

The Hedgerow Way (mp3)

From field grown potato to brassicae and from what are soon to be the finest apples and blackberries [all free gratis], this time the group took what we called the fruiting trail. Brilliant from an exercise and fresh air perspective, more than that it is time spent with others in the great outdoors surrounded by nature.

I think the pictures tell a better story.

The Garden Groups Hedgrow Walk

Listen!

Todays outing, the fifth for the [Peter Donegan Weblog] garden group, took place today in my own home town of Ballyboughal. Today was the turn for the Hedgerow Walk better know as the SlĂ na Sceacha.

It did take place I do admit with about a weeks notice, which is a little short. There were enquiries to know if we could do it again when it comes to fruiting season, so if you missed out, don’t worry, just ask me when the next garden group outing is on.

A huge thanks to todays guide Ann Lynch and also to you for coming along. I wouldn’t swap the great outdoors for the world. It is as always made so much more enjoyable however when the experience is shared. Love it !

A full interview with Ann Lynch, Hedgerow Society Secretary can be heard on Fridays SodShow.

Ballyboughal Hedgerow Round – SlĂ na Sceacha

When I first heard about the Hedgerow Society, I have to honestly admit, I did kind of think of think to myself….. ye what….?! Some big bunch of hippy nutters, pretty much.

But I had been brewing on doing something for the Garden Group like this for some time and when on Sunday [may 22nd ’11] the opportunity came up to go on an outing…. a trial run for the Garden Groupeee’s, I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised.

More than that, for those who are into it, after aking on the twitter, I set myself up on the Run Keeper iphone app just to see what results came out of it. From chatting about it seems 415 calories is just one advantage to doing this 5 kilometre easy going stroll through some of Irelands unseen lands, nature and landmarks that pre date the 18 century.

My guide for the day was a lady called Ann Lynch who is the Secretary of the Hedgerow Society, a professional tour guide and an absolute lady with a delightful sense of humour. Journey wise, it was an absolute honour and a very interesting journey through, up and over lands that although not that far away from me [and you], I knew very little about. I’m slightly the wiser now.

Also, these are just some of the images I managed to snap on my journey.
