Trim 2025 – the carbon [r]evolution begins

Before you read this – read Trim 2025 to go carbon neutral

In what may have seemed, to some, like an almost niaive scenario to percieve… it now seems that young Martin Tighe literally has started what is now the most enviable vision ever to evolve worldwide and this one from a town in Ireland called Trim. Ladies and gentlemen… The carbon revolution has just begun.

In an all star headline act some spoke of the redemption required to change that same old heads of town events, boards and committees…. and whilst the presence of Noel Dempsey may have attracted some – it was the fine and independent minded speaking of David Mc Williams who stole the show.

That was until the music kicked off….

Whether you are 6, 16 or 106 years old… this really was a day for Trim, in its entirety, to stand tall and to be extremely proud. I’m not talking some group of contrary county councillors seeking to prove their worth to the local papers and a bunch of men in suits holding cardboard cheques… This is close on verging Bono country and it is every piece of energy that a green revolution should be.

One last thing before – the last thing…. where the fork where the green party….?

Martin Tighe, stand up sir and take a bow…. The world is watching.

The one thing I took from this…..? anyone, any person all of the doom and gloom merchants, the nay sayers…. you know who you are and if not, everyone knows at least one……. fork you! It can be done. I listened to young Martin. No older that 30 years old – who took on an entire town… and won’t stop there. I listened to Mc Williams…. stuff the government and stuff you if you are sitting on your arse looking for someone to blame. We know what they can’t do…. but you can. And you can. As a btw… I’m almost 10 years in business. I borrowed the tools for my first job. I’ve never been the recipient of any welfare or grants of any format…. and now Martin who doesn’t even live in Trim…..  and you know what he’s right…. I’ll give him the final word….

Many, many special thanks to all the very kind people I met in Trim.

is your product amazing and irish…?

peter-donegan-irish-products

what you got.... ?

I was looking recently for information on irish products that were to do with the barbeque. I was extremely disappointed. I could find nothing Irish, online. If I can’t find ’em – I guess no-one else can.

On the flip side – I often get e-mailed, [more spammed] by people looking for links to their products. Damiens general & logic guide on ‘fluffys’ kind of apply here.

Is your product is amazing:

and if you would like notoriety here *and* if it is of interest I can give it a mention or even an entire post. Here’s my suggestion[s]:

  • You can send me a sample – I can fiddle around with it and develop my own opinion and review it. I can/ will not review something I have not used.
  • You can send me a link and I can then decide whether or not to give it a mention.
  • You can offer free products/ tickets to the readers of the weblog, where it may then also be reviewed.

my preference is the following:

  • It is preferably irish made  or/ &  designed or/ & invented.
  • you are NOT an agent/ reseller of it.
  • It can be an event, a book or a service – it really just needs to be interesting
  • it should be greeny/ outdoors/ horticulture related – try me 😉

All of my reviews to date are linked to Loudervoice – click and take a look. That doesn’t include general links to bits and bobs I find interesting.

*please note – I do this weblog in my spare time – hence this post.

How to contact me:

why bother with a blog…?

you'd kinda have to agree... ?

...

Increasingly I am asked why I bother to write this weblog? I don’t particularly know why…. Some see it as time wasted; some ‘don’t get it‘ and some wonder what I get from it; I decided to dispel the myths that may linger out there regarding my weblog.

But as the queries went a little further I tried to find the ‘perfect’ answer. Sidetracking slightly, I was browsing through Deborahs Tastie website. I found a sense of honesty that lay behind her writings, a reasoning for writing and an independent mind. I like this. It made me want to read more of her writings because of that honesty and truthfulness that would remain. I felt this was a good place to start.

To that, I have two loves in my life, and in no particular order horticulture and writing. I have pretty much always written. Horticulturally, since I was 26 years old I wrote weekly for the Farmers Journal for 2/3 years and now quarterly for Selfbulid Ireland magazine. I’ve also done some freelance writing. The reality is there are very few full time writing gigs available in Ireland. That aside here are my whys and why nots….

  • i don’t get paid for writing my weblog articles
  • i don’t do it on company time
  • i can pre-programme posts to publish on a certain date and time
  • i do this on articles that are irrelevant of time-ish
  • i’ve never been paid for a review [see first point also]
  • i write mainly late in the evenings and the weekends
  • i do so because i dont watch much tv
  • because i don’t like to [i prefer to read.. or write] and i only have 4 tv channels
  • because i have the rabbit ears type tv aerial
  • and therefore the reception is very poor
  • and re-read paragraph 3
  • and because I enjoy it
  • like a wife being you’re wife & your best friend; gardening is my work and my hobby [i know it’s the same]
  • i can pretty much write off the top of my head
  • because i try to write passionately and from my heart
  • i also think people like reading my writing…

Some queries asked if I would do reviews for their products. It is here that I will quote from Deborahs Tastie site

I will consider free gifts and products for review as long as you respect my right to review them honestly.  I will not consider reviewing anything where non-disclosure or a favourable impression is required.  I would strongly advise PR folks or anyone else seeking to interact with myself or any other blogger to read this first.

Some queries have asked if I would be willing to write for them. We should talk first probably but you can call the office on 003531-8078712 and I make really good coffee.

I hope this helps explain why I like to write. If there are any other queries, one can also leave a comment, I will answer as soon as I possibly can. Should I bother – I’d like to think so.
