I am a really lucky fortunate guy. I have great friends. I know some really kind people. Really kind.

Now and again it’s important to say thanks. Put simply, that is all this post is……

Sunday just gone, afternoon, sitting at my kitchen table having coffee were Bernie Goldbach and his family, all the way from Cashel Co Tipperary – Bernie had come to Dublin to set me up with some new audio recording equipment; Phil Murtagh was there too – setting up my laptop that he got me out of bed to go and help me choose and buy [sunday rules apply here – hello Michael!]. Also there, for no apparent reason was George Foxe. I must make really good coffee.;)

The night before Luke Donegan [no relation] sent me this logo [see left] to spruce up my twitter page. No apparent reason. Luke has previously designed the #sodcast iTunes logo and the garden group logo’s. Watch this space. I hope he remebers me wants his garden done when he’s rich and famous 😛

Two days previous at around 9.30pm Krishna De spoke with me on Skype, just chatting about things I should and could do. krishna is a genius in her field [be dum] and to have that chat – money simply couldn’t buy it. She also has one of the best smiles I have ever seen 😀 Some time ago, Krishna gave me a lift. From Limerick.

This morning I spoke to Gordon Murray. Another tech genius. Another gentleman. He lives in Cork. The fact that the internet is not a garden helps a lot knowing that my computer and his garden have amazing similarities. He owes me a pint. It’s my notebook 😆

Take Brian Greeene and the sodcast intro jingle. Mark Rock of audioboo who I shall see shortly in London. Gentleman. Also Kevin Coleman of Back Page Football, Davy Mac Donald previously for my website header – Adrian McMahon and years [literally] of advice. Anthony McGuinness, Darren Byrne…. the list is literally endless. All in some form or other have been there for me and usually when I needed it the most.

Thanks also to Eoin kennedy, David and Daryll for Friday, it was an honour to be in your company. I think golf clubs would be a really bad investment. Thanks also to the lads at Simply Zesty for the lovely cup of tea 😉

There a long list of names I should have here, I know that. If I’ve left you out…. I know you know it’s not intentional….. Please do hollar and I’ll sneak it in. It wouldn’t be the same without you. I know also that in those above and so many more are simply great friends who I have laughed, possibly cried and smiled after with.

If you ever have the honour to work with any of those mentioned above, tell them I said thanks, again.

Straight from the European Union and more organic information:
DG ENV informed the Group about the EU Ecolabel scheme, which has been in place since 1992. The scheme has to be reviewed and the Commission has proposed appropriate amendments to the Regulation – and the Ecolabel scheme would now cover food and drink products as well. This will not be implemented now, but only after a study has been made by the end of 2011. The study will involve consumers and assess whether the Ecolabel will be compatible with the EU organic logo.
CIAA, IFOAM and COPA-COGECA expressed their concerns – including the major risk that consumers would be confused and misled and they called for some kind of communication strategy.
ECVC pointed out that the Ecolabel scheme has been used more traditionally and this calls for cautiousness and that the creation of a new scheme would not benefit anyone. In FairTrade’s view it would be essential not to devaluate the organic EU-logo. CIAA suggested that not only consumers become involved in the study but that the Commission
used other alternatives such as round table meetings. They also presented the argument that the study should not be rushed through with the sole purpose of carrying out new initiatives. EOCC addressed the certified system; separated or single out for the revised scheme.
DG ENV stated that the criteria will be improved and strengthened every 3-5 years and that the Commission was aware of the dilemma between fair trade end eco. The Chair concluded that the Group needs to be informed, so that the concerns can be addressed.

Audioboo Deep Dive @ The Dot Conf

For those who don’t know what the dotconf was – this post on the dot conf may explain better.

But, it is not until after the hindsight has kicked in that one really realises just how and what audioboo has helped. This was kicked off by Bernie, via podcast of course.

I followed Bernie’s path with my thoughts on podcasting and in particular audioboo as my tool of choice.

So what can you take from this? A good start, from a gardeners perspective, can be made by taking a trip over to audioboo.fm and after that it’s up to you whether you choose to add to the conversation or simply listen. Either or one cannot disagree that the listening to alone is giving radio, maybe of a different format, an entirely fresh and most welcome new lease of life.

Personally, I like this little chat of a podcast that was recorded just after Bernie, Mark and myself had completed our deep dive audioboo sessions. On top of the National College of Ireland. 🙂

For me personally, I just find it amazing that an entire post is put together by seperate audio clips, taken over varying days that join together and make complete one blog post. Could I have done this one year ago ? Possibly….

From the article I was intending to publish, these stats are quite interesting,

New Media Update Podcasting News – wrote an article called Podcast Fans Are The Ultimate Audience For Advertisers – I took the main bullet points out of it just to give you an idea of the reach[?] that podcasting actually has.

  • Podcast fans are significantly more affluent than general population.
  • Podcast fans are rapidly turning away from traditional media and “interruption” advertising models.
  • 37% of video podcast users and 31% of audio podcast users say they *enjoy* advertising in podcasts. By comparison, only 6% say same of TV and radio.
  • Podcasts confer on their advertisers and sponsors a “halo effect; podcast fans give props to the advertiser for sponsoring a show they like.
  • Over 70% of active podcast listeners are receptive to sponsorship messages in podcasts.

  • One in five active podcast consumers are actively interested in host-read sponsorship messages. Survey respondents believe that podcast hosts/creators are actual users of the goods and services of their sponsors.
  • Nearly 4/5 of the survey interviewees listen to podcasts every week, but are not as reachable by other “regular” mass media.
  • Podcast fans say it is not just important to be able to “time-shift” their podcast and other media consumption; nearly equally important is the ability to get unique shows [not available outside of podcast medium].
  • 90% of those surveyed prefer advertising supported shows vs. ad-free paid subscriptions.
  • 3/4 of the respondents use iTunes to find and subscribe and 66% have been listening/watching podcasts for 2 years or more
