Back Garden Redesign, Dublin

There are two parts to every new garden makeover created – What it was before and what it becomes after. This, matters again, in 2 departments pre works being carried out:

  1. An ability for you to see past what you have existing and to what it is to become, and….
  2. An amount of ones budget that will never, ever be seen unless you were aware what it was before.

To that, this video above makes all the difference.

Donegan Garden Design Project, Howth Dublin

I never really liked showing the before photos or works in progress. That maybe is something that has come from my time in show and television garden building, in that there was always something left to the imagination irrespective of the hard work that went in behind the scenes.

The Chelsea’s of this world can be particularly good for that and it’s not until one gets talking to the gardens makers that you really appreciate that what might appear as the simplest of builds was one of that really required careful planning in order to make it for all including the client, seamless.

This phase 2 of this garden project was very much one of them.

Dublin Landscaping: Quartz Raised Planters and Raised Planters

As additions to gardens go or in fact as doing anything goes, I’ve always lived by the do it once and do it very right rule.

This may well be considered a (raised) garden wall, but there a few things of note before taking everything into consideration:

Dublin Landscaping: Split Level Back and Front Garden

When one takes a garden within any location, the decision that has to be made pre its landscaping is essentially, how do you want it to make you feel when; the last plant is placed in the ground and upon first glance you see it. In a nutshell, irrespective of the amount one spends, your investment and subsequently your garden, should stand out and equally fit for all of the right reasons – and – make you feel right at home, or at work. I personally prefer the former.

Donegan Landscaping, Dublin: Back Garden Makeover.

donegan landscaping dublin, back garden (1)

I’ve most probably noted this a bizillion times over but, there are two things that make any garden that little bit extra brilliant:

  1. A really, really great client – I hate that word – And…..
  2. An entire disaster of a pre my getting there garden.

The latter if I’m honest, very simply gives the before and after video that extra wow factor and maybe makes me look a little more of a genius at what I do. Whereas the former, really is what makes it all, feel just that extra special and tailored just for you. Something I can only describe as the difference between a house and a home.

What may be worth considering here is:

  1. that the (pre my getting there) garden rose by approx 27 degrees over a 9 metre distance to the rear
  2. the soil was really something terrible; better known as a gley soil to the horticulturist; or a level below subsoil. And…
  3. therefore the drainage and nutrient soil value was virtually non existant.
  4. the only access was through the house

Those factors however really did not affect in any way what the garden was to become. That, in it’s entirety came down to the Clients (yup) wishes and a meeting of minds for the what the space would become.
