I borrowed this from Damiens blog. He seems to like it. So does Nigel. You can buy them here. In fact everyone seems to like them.
I think they’re pretty funky too to be honest. Anything that makes people say… hey I better look after a plant has to be worthwhile… next up solar powered plants…. ?!!
I flew to Cork on Friday [8pm Dublin - Cork] AerArann. The plane was slighly late. Apology came over the intercom. Accepted. Slightly nervous on planes anyway, we hit turbulence. The Air hostess, a young Lady was straight over in seconds to see how bad I was and if she could do anything? Good service deserves applause.
When we arrived to stay in Cork International Airport Hotel my mind was blown away. I’d heard about this place from Damien Mulley. This now, is one of my top 5 hotels of all time. The interior is breathtaking, unusual and inspirational. For once in my life the ‘smoking’ room is, for sure something [unusually here] we all would admire. However, from the moment one gets off the plane a phone call ‘skype’ style to the reception, the pick up, the staff [all] are all superb. You are made feel welcome. This is maybe unusual for a hotel, but if that be so, for an airport hotel, wowee!
There’s always one: A couple beside me on Sunday were having lunch. They ate almost everything. Then complained. ‘I could have made better wedges & the steak sandwich was and the… we’re not paying!’ I thought, but you… there’s nothing left, I thought. [I had a case like this recently]. The staff were well mannered & polite and unfortunately [who am I to talk] the money came off the bill. I hope they keep their word and never come back.
Whilst Cork Airport really needs to plant anything, one, a few hundred some trees and soften [landscape style] the grounds, the hotel has done its best with their surrounds and what they have – but [for once in a long time] the interior design and the staff deserve applause.
Thank you flight attendant in Aer Arann. Thank you Cork International Airport Hotel.
I have emailed Cork Intenational Airport Hotel & Aer Arann this post
This allium, also a member of the alliaceae/ lilliaceae family, the same as kitchen garlic [allium sativum] is probably my favourite bulb.
My favourite variety is this and of course Allium globemaster – mainly because of its yellow centre spot on a mre purple flower; akin to that of the solanum crispum glasnevin.
These guys do cost a little more han your average daffodil but well worth it and amazing as a cut flower on its own.
The stems of these guys can grow up to about 24″ tall upon which a 4″ diameter head sits on top.
I still look at it to this day and wonder ‘how on earth can your sister be stinking garlic… ?!!’. How inspiational life can be from such a breathtaking little piece of natures finest beauty. A fine specimen and well deserved of entry in my favourite plants list.
I think I was just having an ‘alright’ day here rather than my usual [i think I needed coffee...!] but, I must reiterate the point being made here is transparancy to the point where choice can be made and we know the cost based on the service we will get. After that, when you get that service, its just a matter of getting paid… the reason possibly for my [allowed] bad day.
UPDATE: I have decided that the entire bill of the contract mentioned that was ‘not paid – in full’ should go to Niall Mellon Township/ Garden of Hope Charity. A trip I will make to South Africa this November. The amount is €2,750. Like a pink boat with a nice ending – that has cheered me up!
The award winning gardens of Brackenstown have hit the big screen. The gardens open for two weeks only for the Mid summer sculpt exhibition and this is one not to be missed. Tickets are limited and must be booked in advance through Gormleys Fine Art. Oliver is right, ‘what a setting’!
